How autobiographical is Pride and Prejudice? Well, the Bennets have servants and are financially comfortable, while Jane Austen's family was always worried about money.
There are five Bennet daughters, and yet, of the seven Austen children, only two were girls.
But it's in the close relationship between the two oldest Bennet sisters that we can see a real similarity with Jane and her beloved sister Cassandra. Cass was considered the beauty of the family.
Jane was the clever one. They were best friends. They shopped together, walked together, wore the same hats and were inseparable. When they were apart, they wrote to each other daily.
Jane and Cassandra lived with their mother until Jane's death at the age of 41. She died with Cassandra at her bedside.
The Austen sisters are gone, but the Bennet sisters will live forever.
